Why pH Monitoring Matters in Oral Health

(Reading time: 2 min)

We often focus on brushing and flossing, but there’s another tool that can help in your fight against cavities – pH monitoring.

Why pH matters
The pH level in your mouth affects how easily bacteria can grow and erode your enamel. A low (acidic) pH encourages harmful bacteria to thrive, leading to enamel erosion, demineralisation, and eventually, cavities.

Early detection is key
With easy-to-use pH test strips, like the Cavity pHighter, you can regularly check your saliva’s pH and take preventive steps early. This can include reducing acidic foods, using pH-balancing rinses, or increasing water intake.

What’s considered healthy?
A neutral or slightly alkaline pH (around 6.5–7.5) is ideal. If your pH regularly drops below 6, it could signal increased cavity risk.

Take control of your oral health
By understanding and monitoring your oral environment, you’re empowering yourself to prevent decay before it starts – especially helpful for kids, orthodontic patients, or those with a history of cavities.
